Thinking of having a yard sale?

Sales can accomplish a number of goals:

Turn some unwanted items into cash
For most holders of yard sales, this is the primary objective. Let's face it, over time items purchased lose their useful value or necessity and become items that simply take up space. Why not hold a sale and realize the remaining value in these items?

Generate funds for events
Many organizations hold sales to raise funds. It can be for kids to go to camp or a class trip. Sporting events such as cheerleading and sports competitions. Or even Church organizations for their youth groups and clubs. These types of sales generate funds that are used for specific events and can even be a great source of donations by previous members or alumni.

Reduce the amount unused items
If you have items that you bought that are no longer being used, chances are they are being stored somewhere in your home, garage, or shed. Let's liquidate those items, reduce the clutter and have storgae area available for items that you do need and use on a regular basis. It is all too easy to put it off and deal with it later. Now is an excellent time to practice, "Out with the old, In with the new."

Lessen the load prior to moving
Maybe you're moving to a new location, downsizing to a smaller home, getting married and combining Homes. Figure out what you absolutely can't live without and sell the rest. Rule of thumb, if you haven't used it or worn it in 6 months, chances are, you're not going to for the next 6 months. Let it go. Storage can be expensive and sometimes it is just easier to go buy another one if you find you should need it again.

Liquidate personal items of an estate
Some people find that they are left to liquidate the items in a family member's estate. Many times, an auction company is a great source to deal with these items. They have professionals who know the values and can typically dispense of leftover items quickly. Estate sales require a little more work than just a typical yard sale.

Benefit a charity or specific person/organization
Many times friends and family come together to raise money for someone they know who is sick and in need of medical care where insurance is inadequate. Charity sales can generate funds to help with costs for specific items. Many times, the sale can generate funds based on following of the person/organization by persons who want to help.

Additionally, sales can generate other benefits just by their mere existence.

Create quality time
Believe it or not, sales can be fun. They can be a time of comraderie and fun between the event holders and even guests.

Teach value lessens to children
Include children in a family yard sale. Children can benefit from sales by learning the value of possessions even after the useful life has ended. Never underestimate the positive lessens children can learn from business transactions, they can go on to becoming a CEO of their own company with just one little idea.

Meeting new people and networking
You just never know who is going to come to your sale. It could be someone that needs an employee or a job. When you strike up conversations with people, you can gain new friends or find things in common.
